Xiaomi Haylou Solar LS05 SmartWatch
Introduction
Because the Haylou Solar employs an LCD panel rather than an OLED panel, an always-on display function is not possible, therefore you have feature parity with the Mi Band in that regard. Also, contrary to what the name suggests, there is no solar charging available here.

We realized Haylou was not a household name, so we did more research. Dongguan Liesheng Electronics Co., Ltd. owns the Haylou brand, which is formed from the homonym of the English word “hello,” as it sounds. For Bluetooth headsets and smart wearables, the latter provides ODM solutions as well as R&D, production, and marketing skills.

Xiaomi provided cash and participation in the Xiaomi ecosystem to the company as a startup. The specific link between Xiaomi and Dongguan Liesheng Electronics is currently unclear, however it is known that the former is a key client of the latter. As a result, the similarities in features and user interface between Haylou Solar and Amazfit devices such as the GTR and T-Rex begin to make sense. Amazfit products are made by Huami, the company behind the popular Xiaomi Mi Band series, but there are apparent ties between the two companies.
The good news is that Amazfit’s typical strong suit, battery longevity, has been transferred over to the Haylou Solar.
Comfort, design, and materials
The Haylou Solar isn’t the most attractive smartwatch, but as we’ve seen, it’s more of a competitor to smartbands, where the conventional “watch” appearance is still in the minority. The metal body and general feel of the Haylou Solar stand out at its price range. The metal case also gives the gadget a hefty feel that some users may prefer.

Some people are concerned about the decision to make the front glass flat with the metal bezel. Because no specific protective coating for the glass is mentioned on the official Haylou specs page, scratches are likely to detract from its appearance in the future.
The Haylou Solar’s 1.28-inch LCD works wonderfully indoors. Thanks to its 240 × 240-pixel resolution, colors are vivid and text and UI components are sharp. It struggles to increase the brightness high enough when used outside, and you may have problems reading it if you’re sitting in the sun.
The top glass layer, as well as the small, but still existent air gap between it and the real panel, cause reflections. A fully laminated solution might have helped a little, but at this price point, that’s unlikely.

Because there is no luminance sensor for auto brightness, you must manually cycle among the four brightness levels. You can either learn to live with a darker outdoor experience and an uncomfortably bright UI at night, or you can cultivate the habit of adjusting the brightness as needed.
Haylou Solar also outperforms its competition in terms of comfort. A thin profile ensures a secure fit against the wrist, reducing the possibility of snags and bumps. Even with a tighter strap setting, the Solar’s plastic back side is relatively flat and comfy.

Features

Smart wearables come in a variety of sizes and features. The Solar isn’t a true smartwatch, like the Apple Watch or the Samsung Watch, because it lacks third-party app support and a software ecosystem. As previously said, it’s more of a smart activity/sports tracker with limited functionality that can only be enhanced by firmware updates from the manufacturer.
Both ways have advantages since full-fledged operating systems are more reliable, but they are also more expensive to maintain and put a greater strain on the battery. So, if you can discover a smart wearable that meets all of your requirements, you can save a lot of money.
Tracking is a key component of the Haylou Solar’s feature set. The PPG sensor on its back can detect pulses on demand or on a regular basis, depending on your preferences. It was about as accurate and reliable as the Xiaomi Mi Band 4, Amazfit GTR, and Samsung Galaxy Watch in our tests.
Battery life and charging

A 340mAh battery powers the Haylou Solar. In absolute terms, that’s not much, but it’s still a lot for a smart wearable. With such a limited quantity of power, though, hardware economy and creative software are critical. We’ve previously complimented Huami’s high-efficiency bespoke hardware. Given the company’s history with Huami and Xiaomi, the Haylou Solar appears to be wearing something similar, if not identical. In real-world use, the officially advertised endurance value of 30 days on a single charge is easily feasible. Even among activity trackers, this is an unusual occurrence, putting the Haylou Solar in a league with only a few other devices, such as the Amazfit Bip and Amazfit GTR. Of course, the Haylou Solar had to give up AOD, among other things, to get over a month away from the wall due to the lack of an efficient OLED panel, but it’s still outstanding.
The Haylou Solar is charged using a patented magnetic connector that clamps onto the watch’s back pair of pogo pins. The relationship is strong enough to stay put on its own. The magnets also make attaching the item simple.
Because the charger uses a low current of only 500mAh at 5V, it may be plugged into almost any USB port. The charging process begins quickly. In roughly an hour and a half, you can go from zero to fifty percent battery. The charger slows down after that, probably to safeguard the little battery. A full charge takes approximately three hours.
