With the Huawei Watch Fit 2, Huawei follows up its half-smartwatch, half-fitness tracker wearable with a device that looks a lot like its predecessor. However, there are a few noticeable changes to the design, and some features from Huawei’s more expensive watches have been added.
Design
A more modern way to switch straps
Compared to the first one, this one has a bigger screen.
The screen has changed in a big way. The first Fit had a very good screen, and now Huawei has gone from a 1.64-inch AMOLED screen with 456 x 280 pixels to a 1.74-inch screen with 480 x 336 pixels. In a poorly lit demo room, it was hard to tell how much of a difference the better resolution and screen size made, but I would gladly take more screens on this wearable.
I didn’t get to try one on, but it looks like the Watch Fit 2 will sit on your wrist in a way that is very similar to the first Fit. It weighs about the same, and if you like the idea of a fitness tracker with a big screen that isn’t quite as big as a smartwatch, this looks like it will do the job again.
Huawei hasn’t changed the fact that it can handle water up to 5ATM, which means it’s safe to use in the pool or shower. Just don’t dive more than 50 meters down.
The battery life and features
Workouts with cartoons
10 days on a single charge
Built-in GPS
The most interesting thing about the Huawei Watch Fit was that it had animated workouts. On the Fit 2, everything from the Fit makes the cut, including that. However, it’s safe to say that Huawei has improved this tracker/smartwatch hybrid and made some of the features better.
Huawei’s Watch GT Runner has built-in GPS and works with the dual-band, five-system GNSS feature. That should make it easier to track runs, rides, and hikes outside, and it’s great to see it added to a device that costs so little.
Huawei’s TruSeen 5.0 optical sensor is also on board, and it will take care of heart rate, blood oxygen monitoring, and stress tracking.
You can still do animated workouts and choose from 97 workout modes, but runners will soon be able to do even more. You can now access animated warm-up routines from the screen where you track your runs to make sure your body is ready to run. Huawei is also adding features from its watches, like the Running Ability Index, Training Load, and VO2 Max, to help you figure out how you’re training and when you should train. It lets you follow training plans, and you can even surprise yourself by importing routes to the Watch Fit 2 to help you find your way.
The Watch Fit 2 is still a smartwatch, and you can still do everything you could with the first Fit. You can see what’s going on, control music, and check the weather. It does work with HarmonyOS, but you won’t be able to add apps to it.
Huawei has now added a speaker, so if you’ve been wanting to take calls when you’re paired with your phone over Bluetooth, you can do so.
Even though it looks like Huawei has made the battery bigger, it still seems to have the same number of battery hours as its predecessor. It can last up to 10 days, but if you use it a lot, we think it will only last 7 days, just like the first Watch Fit. It will be interesting to see how hard it will be to reach those numbers with better outdoor tracking.
